Our Experience with Ground-water Modeling
Nicklin Earth & Water's staff has extensive experience with modeling ground-water systems. It is not our view that it is always necessary to apply numerical, computer models to ground-water systems. However, there are situations when developing and applying a numerical model can prove to be a useful tool for addressing important ground-water issues. We have used numerical models to evaluate problems ranging from simple two-dimensional ground-water flow representations to more complex three-dimensional chemical fate and transport simulations.

Establishing Ground-water Model Objectives and Developing a Conceptual Model
When we conduct a ground-water modeling effort, it is our conviction that the modeling effort should follow clear-cut program objectives. To achieve those objectives it is necessary to develop a sound, conceptual model of the hydrogeologic system of interest. Development of the conceptual model is essential, as it will form the scientific underpinnings of the modeling effort. More specifically, it allows the important parameters of the hydrogeologic system to be quantified for use later, during model construction.

Model Construction, Calibration, Sensitivity Analysis, and Application
Following the development of the conceptual model, the numerical model is systematically constructed, then calibration and sensitivity analyses of the relevant hydraulic parameters are performed. Once it is justified that the model satisfactorily represents the ground-water system of interest and that it is a reliable, predictive tool, it is applied to evaluate the modeling objectives which were previously developed.

Successful Modeling
Scientific development of the model is only one part of a successful modeling effort. It is our firm belief that the client must be an integral part of the entire modeling effort. In order to enhance this cause, we use graphical approaches which allow our clients and other relevant parties to visualize the modeling effort from conception through application.

In the event that you have a project which requires the consideration of ground-water modeling, we have the requisite experience and tools to meet your modeling requirements. In order to carry out successful modeling efforts, we have invested in the most current modeling hardware and software. Of equal importance are the staff we have on board that can utilize these tools to their highest potential to achieve effective results.
